Keynote Speakers

Rebecca Cypher, MSN, PNNP

Rebecca is a proven nursing leader with 30 years of front-line perinatal nursing experience, including a 20-year active duty Air Force career. After serving in a variety of roles and locations, including an Iraq deployment, her professional path led to a perinatal nurse practitioner and nurse entrepreneur career. A dedicated and loyal member since 1989, she’s a strategic thinker who has helped AWHONN move forward as a nationally respected organization by holding multiple elected leadership positions including Section Chair and two Board of Directors terms.

Additionally, she served on numerous committees including AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring revision groups, state-wide perinatal advisory task forces, and maternal-newborn mortality review boards. Being passionate about inter-disciplinary education, mentoring, and professionalism, she lectures on obstetric topics, is actively involved in conducting clinical research and is published in multiple peer reviewed journals and textbook. She is also co-author of Mosby's Pocket Guide to Fetal Monitoring: A Multidisciplinary Approach, an editorial board member for the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing and a reviewer for Nursing for Women’ Health.

Lisa Miller, CNM, JD

Lisa Miller, CNM, JD, is a registered nurse and certified nurse-midwife with more than 30 years of clinical experience in a wide variety of clinical settings. An attorney since 1990, her legal background gives her a unique understanding of the impact of law on medicine and nursing.

Lisa served as Clinical Instructor for the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Champaign-Urbana and as an Assistant Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, where she directed an academic midwifery service.

Lisa developed Miller’s ReadRight EFM Ruler to aid clinicians in teaching and applying the NICHD nomenclature. Lisa is also on the medical advisory board to LifeWave, Inc. Lisa is experienced as both an expert witness and trial consultant for obstetric malpractice cases, and provides consultations to hospitals and hospital systems on obstetric risk management, including multidisciplinary protocol development for high-risk procedures such as induction and augmentation of labor. Lisa currently writes two editorial columns for the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing (JPNN) and serves as a member of JPNN’s editorial board. She provides peer review for the Journal of Midwifery and Women’s Health, and is an active member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN).
